It's true, and they will wake up again without notice.
Stanford University study in the United States of America concluded that during
the day our brain repeats some of the activities it plays during sleep at
night. In other words, our brain is able to sleep and wake up during the day
while we're awake.
The brain process is involuntary and the only way to
avoid episodes is to focus on a specific activity. Scientists have come to the
conclusion that neurons respond more quickly to external stimuli if they are on
alert.
The U.S. study suggests that some of the brain
processes observed during sleep are essential also to the level of attention
each person presents. Selective attention, for example, is a process that can
take only some parts of the brain awake.
