Sleep needs are different from person to person, and also vary according to the age of the individual. The average sleep need for each age is usually indicated as follows:

Babies – 14 - 17 hours
3 to 12 years old – 8 - 12 hours
13 to 18 years old – 7 - 10 hours
19 to 65 years old – 7 - 9 hours
Over 65 years old – 7 - 9 hours
